Lots of integrated primary schools will be showcasing their scarecrows at Allianz Scarecrow Avenue with a special category this year, “Legends of NI” in partnership with the Integrated Education Fund. Legends could be local sporting stars to great historical figures, the competition also has other categories open including the Scariest Scarecrow and the most eco-friendly scarecrow.
Brian Small the Fundraising Manager at the Integrated Educated Fund commented,
“The Integrated Education Fund is once again delighted to be co-ordinating the participation of integrated primary schools in the “Allianz Scarecrow Avenue” competition at Allianz Garden Show Ireland. There is always tremendous excitement as schools prepare to enter their scarecrows and with the new category this year of “Northern Irish Legends” we are excited to see what legends will be lining up. Schools tell us that they find it a fun and educational experience and the scarecrows always provide a colourful and imaginative display for visitors to the Show. Our thanks go to Allianz for sponsoring this element of the Show.”
The schools will be rewarded for the efforts with a range of prizes and experiences kindly donated by CAFRE Greenmount Campus, including trees for the overall winners in each of the categories as well as a morning at CAFRE for all those who enter.
Claire Faulkner, Director of Allianz Garden Show Ireland, believes the schools’ activity is a vital part of the Show,
“It brings such a sense of energy to the show to have so many school children involved in the different challenges. Our aim is to get young people interested and engaged in horticulture and it is always rewarding to see how much they learn. Every little bit we do to start thinking more about green and growing spaces has to help the bigger picture for future generations. There is something so magical about the imagination of a child and we are very excited to see what they will create for their container gardens and scarecrows!”
Allianz Garden Show Ireland 2017 will run from 5 – 7 May at Antrim Castle Gardens and is open daily from 10 am – 6 pm with parking adjacent.
