88 students from Erne Integrated College, Enniskillen and Drumragh Integrated College, Omagh, took part in the first joint integrated ski trip for colleges in the west of the province. Accompanied by 9 staff from both schools and Dr Gerry Mackin (South West Acute Hospital) as the trip doctor, the groups departed their respective schools in the early hours of Saturday 27th January to Dublin Airport: the final destination being the Italian Ski resort of Bormio staying in Hotel Girasole 2000 for six days skiing.
A fantastic week was enjoyed by all with four days of blue skies and sun, followed by a fresh fall of snow on the Thursday – the day of the group photo! The students quickly got to know each other in and around the hotel as well as in the mixed ski groups in their outdoor classroom for the week. It was also a welcomed opportunity for the staff to get to know some of their closest Integrated neighbours.
As a result of the successful experience, negotiations are already underway to repeat the joint trip next year.
