U.S. Consul General, Dan Lawton, with Public Affairs Specialist, Peter McKittrick were welcomed to Integrated College Dungannon by Principal, Mr Andrew Sleeth, Head Boy, Aaron Graham and Head Girl, Rebecca Kinsella.
Following a tour of the College, the Consul General was keen to meet with Sixth Form students to explain his role and to discuss U.S. politics and trade. The students were given the opportunity to ask questions and used this positively to learn more about Mr Lawton’s role when he served in Lima, Karachi, and Mexico; to ask his thoughts on the impact of Brexit and to discuss the strong relationships between America, Ireland and the UK. Peter McKittrick then provided the students with information on student exchange programme opportunities.
Light refreshments were served, during which the Consul General had the opportunity to discuss their various roles with Head Students, Chair of the Social Action Interact Committee, Chair and Vice Chair of the Student Council and Anti-Bullying Ambassadors.
The visit concluded with a presentation, by the Consul General, of the Consulate Coin to Mr Sleeth.
