The Integrated Education Fund (IEF) wants to help make integration, not separation, the norm in the education system in Northern Ireland.
Educating children together from all traditions is an essential part of building a society where children can learn, play and grow in an environment which respects difference and celebrates diversity.
More parents than ever before want their children to attend integrated schools – but for many it just isn’t possible. Currently more than one in three children are turned away due to lack of places. For many other children there is simply no choice of an integrated school in their area.
In Northern Ireland in September 2010, over 20,000 children, almost 7% of the school population, were attending an integrated school. There are currently 42 integrated primary schools, many with pre-school provision, and 20 integrated colleges – a total of 62 schools.
The IEF needs your help to:
- support the continued growth of integrated school places to meet parental demand by supporting initiatives that will help integrated education exceed 10% of all school places as soon as possible
- support innovative and meaningful shared education projects across the traditional divide
- research into and provide support for parental demand for integrated schooling in local communities
- influence educational change
Together we can make it possible for more children in Northern Ireland to study, play and grow up together regardless of their religion, culture or background.
