VIPs celebrate new facility at Glengormley IPS

John Fitzpatrick, Chair of the American Ireland Fund (AIF) and Baroness May Blood, Campaign Chair of the Integrated Education Fund received a warm welcome at Glengormley Integrated Primary School on Thursday (10 December) when they arrived to open officially their new preschool playgroup building.

Other VIP guests included Danny Kinahan MP, Trevor Ringland of the Ireland Funds and Councillor John Blair, the Deputy Mayor of Newtownabbey,.

The dedicated pre-school building has been established thanks to a generous combined donation of $100,000 from the AIF and the Eithne and Paddy Fitzpatrick Memorial Fund. (more…)

Brian and Sue see their donation bring children together

Brian Dickie, an international businessman and a longstanding supporter of integrated education, returned to his Northern Ireland roots on Friday (4 December) to visit Mill Stand Integrated Primary school, Portrush.

Brian, who was born and brought up in Northern Ireland, still has family connections in Portrush. He and his wife Sue have supported integrated education throughout Northern Ireland and have helped the growth of the nursery unit at Mill Strand IPS. (more…)

Politicians travel from Dublin to see integration in action

Members of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement travelled North to visit two integrated schools on Thursday (3 December 2015). This Committee offers an opportunity to foster better links and dialogue between parliamentarians from both sides of the border. It plays an important role in informing debate on areas of mutual interest such as: reconciliation issues; commemoration and anniversaries; North-South Co-Operation across Sectoral Areas (e.g. Health, Transport, Education, Agriculture, Tourism & Culture); and funding programmes such as PEACE money from Europe, the International Fund for Ireland and so on.

More places to meet demand at Portadown Integrated Primary School

Supporters of integrated education in the Portadown area are celebrating the news that more families will be able to access integrated primary school places from next September.

Education Minister, John O’Dowd, has approved a Development Proposal (with modification) to increase the admissions and enrolment numbers at Portadown Integrated Primary School. (more…)

Education Minister John O’Dowd opens new nursery at Phoenix Integrated Primary School

Phoenix Integrated Primary School today (Weds 2 December) welcomed Education Minister John O’Dowd to the official opening of the school’s new nursery unit.

The unit, which provides 26 part-time nursery places, was established with funding from the Department’s minor works scheme at a cost of £330,000. The Minister also viewed other completed minor works at the school which represent an additional investment of £499,000 to create new classrooms and an entrance area and other associated works. Portadown Integrated Primary School pupils challenge racism

Young people gathered at Portadown IPS on Friday 27 November to discuss ways of supporting newcomer and ethnic minority families in an increasingly diverse Northern Ireland.

The school hosted a “Communities in Dialogue” day with support from the Integrated Education Fund and the Open Society Foundations. The wider community, including children from other primary schools in Portadown, was invited to explore ways of combatting racism and prejudice. (more…)
