Schools around Northern Ireland are being urged to take up an offer of funding to support their shared education activities.
Education Minister Peter Weir has announced that he has extended the deadline to access the £25million for the Delivering Social Change Shared Education Signature Project.
The Programme has been extended to June 2019 and is designed to further embed shared education practices in schools that have already engaged in shared education. The scheme enables existing partnerships to continue and develop but also offers the chance to include additional partners or establish new relationships. (more…)Read More
SDLP Education Spokesperson Colin McGrath MLA has called on the Education Minister to appear before the Education Committee to answer questions on his unilateral decision to reverse departmental policy towards academic selection in primary schools. The Minister announced last week that official departmental guidance would now permit primary schools to coach pupils for transfer tests. The Department of Education has announced that Permanent Secretary Paul Sweeney will retire at the end of 2016.
Paul Sweeney has served as Permanent Secretary in the Department of Education from February 2010, prior to that he was Permanent Secretary in the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure from April 2006. (more…)Read More
