Nitty Gritty: An Integrated Education Theatre Initiative

‘Delicates’, the title of an original piece written by Andrea Grimason, Head of Drama at Newbridge Integrated College, is the premiere production of the newly launched Integrated Education Theatre Company, part funded by the IEF’s Carson Awards Programme.

Welcome to Churchill’s Laundrette, a sea of fabric awash with despair.  Audrey loves clothes, just not other peoples.  Janek loves the ritual and rhythm of the washing cycles, a means to an end.  As they work their way through the mountain of service washes, a dangerous game unfolds as they both try to hold on to who they are and find out about each other….

Andrea, currently on a one year sabbatical, has been working with approximately 50 young people, from a range of integrated colleges, who will be taking part in the theatre production. Andrea said “I have been bowled over by the enthusiasm and commitment of these 16-18 year olds.  They have so much talent – it’s truly inspirational!

The play will be staged in the recently refurbished Crescent Arts Centre in Belfast on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th March with curtain call at 8pm.  “Together we have developed a contemporary play which touches on an array of integration themes relevant to life in present day Northern Ireland.  ‘Delicates’ is thought-provoking, touching and hugely entertaining”.  Tickets are sure to sell fast.

Tickets for this production are £7 each and can be purchased from the Crescent Arts Centre  ph: 02890 242338
