Scarecrow Street Competition at Garden Show Ireland

Every year integrated primary schools exclusively take part in the Allianz Scarecrow Street Competition which is taking place again this year at Garden Show Ireland between Friday 20 and Sunday 22 May in the magnificent Walled Garden of Hillsborough Castle.

Each school is asked to build a scarecrow (or up to 6) and awards are presented for the best Scarecrows: in the following categories: ‘Best in Show’, Characters from books’, ‘Scariest’, ‘Local Faces’ and ‘Traditional Scarecrows’.  The childrens’ imaginations know no bounds and judging by last years marvellous scarecrows, we are really looking forward to this year’s entries.  Last year Millennium IPS won ‘Best in Show’ for Bill and Ben and a little bird has told me he still guards the entrance to the school!

The judging panel for the competition includes presenters from BBC Radio Ulster’s ‘Gardener’s Corner’.  All scarecrows are displayed prominently on Scarecrow Street at the main show entrance and are seen by thousands of vistors. Tickets are available from Garden Show Ireland website.

Thank you to Allianz for sponsoring the competition and thank you to CAFRE Greenmount who again will be supplying the prizes of trees and plants.
