Children’s author is a big draw for Maine IPS pupils

Children at Maine Integrated Primary School in Randalstown had a fantastic day of creativity when the celebrated author and illustrator, Nick Sharratt, visited the school earlier this month.  Nick involved all 120 pupils in reading, writing and drawing workshops as part of an initiative between BookTrust NI and Belfast International Airport.  BookTrust is the charity dedicated to getting children reading to support language skills, creativity and personal development. Chancellor Confirms Massive Boost to Integrated Schools In NI

The UK Chancellor, Philip Hammond MP, visited Rowandale Integrated Primary School in Moira today (Friday 23rd November) to deliver a massive boost to the school and 17 other integrated schools throughout Northern Ireland.

The Chancellor confirmed that Rowandale would receive government funding, not simply to replace their current temporary accommodation but to provide a brand-new, 14-classroom school. The commitment is part of a £300 million capital investment in integrated and shared education in Northern Ireland announced in his autumn budget statement. (more…)

Politicians Respond to Strong Messages from Young People

Young people from schools and youth organisations around Northern Ireland gathered in Belfast last week (Thursday 15 November) to tell Stormont politicians to “Listen up!” and engage with their generation when developing policies.  And the MLAs responded with a commitment to continue the conversation. Whiteabbey Parents invited to discuss education as research shows local support for integration

A poll of parents in the Whiteabbey area has shown that most would like a school for their children which is openly welcoming to pupils from all sections of the community – and 77% of those expressing an opinion said they would support their local school becoming officially integrated.

Residents are now invited to meet and discuss the research at an informal event hosted by the Integrated Education Fund (IEF) in Whiteabbey on 27 November. (more…)

Cliftonville IPS head speaks at House of Lords

A Belfast principal has told an audience at the House of Lords that the success of his primary school proves the value of integration and the demand for places in integrated education.  Cliftonville Integrated Primary School became officially integrated in 2008 and the decade since then has seen it become one of the fastest-growing primary schools in Northern Ireland.

Toolkit to Enable Community Conversation Launched in Belfast

Ulster University launched a “Community Conversation Toolkit” yesterday (05 November) at the MAC Belfast.

The “Toolkit”, funded by the Integrated Education Fund, is a guide developed by the UU School of Education to help meaningful consultation with communities and create inclusive dialogue about local issues.  Developed by Dr Jessica Bates and Dr Una O’Connor Bones, it helps communities contribute their views in a way that is non-partisan and academically rigorous.
