The Carson Award Showcase is an annual event where Integrated pupils show their creative talent and all the amazing projects they have been working on.
Fort Hill IPS won a 'Special Award for Integration through Sport.'
This year’s theme was ‘What Integrated Education Means to Me’. Fort Hill IPS made an impressive video called ‘Integration Through Sport’. This video was so impressive in both content and production that the Carson Award judges awarded the entry ‘Special Award for Integration Through Sport.’
Fort Hill IC won two prizes.
Fort Hill Integrated College were successful in receiving two Joint First Prize Awards in Key Stage Three. The first prize was for an impressive embroidery project called ‘Feathered Stitches’ where different embroidered parts were brought together into a beautiful tapestry. The second prize was awarded for a Poetry Anthology, comprised of poems of integration, where pupils were able to express what they felt Integrated Education means to them.
Millennium IPS won two prizes.
Millennium IPS won two awards this year for their entries on the theme of ‘What Integrated Education Means to Me.’ Their first entry was an amazing video entitled ‘All are welcome’ with a strong message about inclusivity. This project was so impressive that the Carson Award judges awarded the school with Joint First Prize in Key Stage One.
Millennium IPS’s second entry was another video called ‘Autism Heroes’ with footage in of special needs Oak Class and audio of pupils singing ‘My Own Superhero.’ This video focused on the fact that integration includes celebrating people who have special needs. This impressive entry received First Prize in Key Stage Two.
Phoenix IPS won a 'Special Award for Cultural Diversity.'
Phoenix IPS received a ‘Special Award for Cultural Diversity’ for their short film ‘Cultural Diversity’ created by Year Four.
Windmill IPS won Joint First Prize.
Windmill IPS won Joint First Prize for their amazing sculpture entitled ‘The Giraffe.’ Windmill IPS explained that they chose the giraffe for a very special reason. Tanzania have the giraffe as their national animal, because of their grace, as well as their long necks which represent the ability to be visionary seeing the past and the present. The Giraffe serves as a reminder to Tanzanians to view life from all angles, which Windmill IPS pupils felt was a key element of what Integrated Education means to them. They also explained that the giraffe has the biggest heart of all land animals, which reminded the pupils of a famous Nelson Mandela quote: ‘A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.’
IC Glengormley won two prizes.
Integrated College Glengormley won two awards this year for their entries on the theme of ‘What Integrated Education Means to Me.’ Their first entry was an amazing video entitled ‘A world of diversity’ with a strong message about inclusivity as demonstrated in the College’s Culture and Diversity Group. This project was so impressive that the Carson Award judges awarded the school with a ‘Special Award for Cultural Diversity.’
IC Glengormley’s second award was for ‘Special Recognition for Use of Technology.’ It was awarded for their incredibly professional podcast called ‘The Road to Integration.’ The podcast was an in-depth discussion about the school’s journey to become an Integrated College.
Malone College won a 'Special Award for Artistic Flair.'
Malone College won a ‘Special Award for Artistic Flair’ for their creative project on the theme of ‘What integration means to me.’ The students designed posters and then printed the designs onto t-shirts.
Parkhall IC won First Prize.
Parkhall IC won First Prize in Key Stage Four for their entry of an incredible canvas picture entitled ‘Integration Blooms for All.’
Lagan College received an award for 'Special Recognition for Creative Writing.'
Lagan College received an award for ‘Special Recognition for Creative Writing’ for their literary magazine ‘Different Together’, created by Key Stage Three and Four, at this year’s Showcase.
